Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has voiced his alarm following the detention of eight Iranian citizens in the United Kingdom as part of an extensive counter-terrorism probe. The law enforcement actions, which spanned London, Swindon, and Greater Manchester, have prompted the Iranian government to demand transparency and fair treatment for its nationals.
The enforcement operation began on Saturday, May 3rd, when elite units executed warrants at properties in Rochdale and Stockport, along with another Manchester location. These initial raids resulted in three arrests. The investigation quickly widened, leading to two further apprehensions in London and Swindon, bringing the total in the first phase to five.

The situation grew more complex as the Metropolitan Police confirmed that three additional Iranian men were taken into custody in London over the last several days. Expressing his concern on social media, Minister Araghchi stated he was “disturbed” by the news and insisted that British authorities provide the detainees with full due process under the law.
Ongoing searches in Greater Manchester continued through Tuesday, bolstered by the involvement of the SAS. Investigative reports suggest the crackdown was designed to intercept a suspected terror conspiracy aimed at a specific location outside of the Manchester area.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, government official Dan Jarvis declined to identify the alleged target of the plot, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation. He pointed out that the raids reflect a modern security landscape where international state threats, terrorism, and organised crime are increasingly intertwined.
As it stands, four of the individuals arrested during the Saturday raids remain behind bars. A fifth suspect, who was detained in Manchester, has been released on bail under “strict” monitoring conditions, according to the Metropolitan Police.
This series of arrests has intensified scrutiny regarding Iranian operations within the UK and the risk of future security breaches. The investigation is active, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as more evidence is processed.
