Pair Facing Murder Charges Following Fatal Newport Motorcycle Collision Due to Appear in Court

Legal proceedings are set to begin for two men accused of murder in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Newport that claimed the lives of two teenagers.

The victims, identified as 19-year-old Jaydon Bowyer and 16-year-old Ta-Shay Canoville, were traveling on a motorcycle near a roundabout on Aberthaw Road in the early hours of Thursday morning. It is alleged that a BMW struck the pair and immediately sped away from the scene, leaving both young men with fatal injuries.

Following a rapid investigation into the “horror crash”, Gwent Police detained four individuals. Authorities have since confirmed that an 18-year-old and a 34-year-old, both from the local area, have been officially charged with murder. The two suspects remain in custody and are scheduled to stand before Newport Magistrates’ Court today.

Two women, ages 24 and 40, who had also been arrested on suspicion of murder during the early stages of the inquiry, have been released from police custody.

The Newport community has been profoundly affected by the loss, with many gathering to leave tributes for the two victims. Friends and family members have shared their heartbreak online and at the crash site, remembering the duo as inseparable “best pals” whose lives were cut short.

Law enforcement officials are still asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone who was in the Aberthaw Road area at the time of the incident or who may have relevant dashcam footage is urged to contact the police.
